Have you been diagnosed with gum disease? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Over 50% of adults in the U.S. have some form of gum disease that requires treatment.
At San Antonio Aesthetic & Family Dentistry, we provide a variety of treatment options that can restore the health of your teeth and gums. We try to give our patients comfortable, noninvasive treatment options whenever possible.
Non-Surgical Dental Treatment
Preventative Care Measures | The first line of defense against gum disease is a rigorous at-home care routine. Dr. Voges can help you develop a daily routine that reduces gum swelling and bleeding within days. With diligent at-home care and regular visits to our office, you may overcome gum disease without more advanced treatment methods.
Scaling and Root Planing | Our go-to nonsurgical treatment for periodontal disease is a deep cleaning called “scaling and root planing.” During your procedure, we use an ultrasonic cleaning device to remove stubborn plaque and tartar from the teeth. We clean under the gum line, on the tooth, and around the tooth root, which are places that may be difficult for you to reach with your toothbrush.
Antibiotic Therapy | For some cases, Dr. Voges may recommend topical or oral antibiotics. These mouth rinses, gels, or oral medications can eliminate infection-causing bacteria and restore your healthy smile.
Preventing Gum Disease
The best way to prevent gum disease is with daily brushing and flossing, along with regular professional exams and cleanings. Unfortunately, even patients with dentist-approved rituals are susceptible to periodontal disease. In all cases, early treatment is best.
